       113henge

| 113henge | the project | the trust's position |

What is 113henge? It is the roofless past;
Man's ruinous myth; his uninterred adoring
Of the unknown in sunrise cold and red;
His quest of stars that arch his doomed exploring.
And what is Time but shadows that were cast
By these storm-sculptured stones while centuries fled?
The stones remain; their stillness can outlast
The traffic, and of aircraft hurrying overhead.

Siegfried Sassoon (adapted)

Through recent days 113henge has inspired awe, mystery, grandeur, fascination, fear and ridicule. Standing at the centre of a ceremonial landscape containing a few lumps of rock, it is Monmouth Drive's greatest gateway to prehistory, and a World Building Site.

But for years visitors have had to fight off the sounds, smells and sights of modern traffic to experience what Siegfried Sassoon describes.

The 113henge Project will not change all that. Stillness will never return to these storm-sculptured stones.
