KAP

Kite Aerial Photography

Update
May 2006....I've just noticed how out of date this section is. So is the rest of the web site. Rather than rebuild it at this stage, I'm inserting a Flickr slide-show, which cover a lot of my more recent KAP images. Please regard the rest of the pages here as historical background until I update it properly. You can click on the slide-show to go to all my Flickr photos.

Introduction.

This page takes you through some of my experiences with KAP. People come to KAP through from all sorts of backgrounds. Many are very clearly photographers who explore the versatility of photographing from the air brilliantly. You must look at some of their photos! Some are expert crafts people, who make outstanding rigs that work perfectly. Non of these are me.

I just like flying kites

My "Kapping" is a bit of fun with a camera when I fly kites by myself. Find out more about my kite flying elsewhere on the site.
If you want to read a full article on my first year of KAP, together with Photographs, it can be down loaded as a PDF file here (2192KB)

My early experiences with KAP, and my first "rig" can be explored from the links on the menu or here.

Information about the new "RIG 2" are lower on this page. The menu also takes you to the growing gallery of photos,a nd the "KAPtains log", my journal of Kapping.

Note:In kite competition season, I'm more likely to be flying sports kites!

Update on "Rig 2"

During August 2004 Rig 2 was built. It is my first radio controlled rig, built at budget prices. The two channel r/c system cost £15 from e-bay, and the frame etc. is built mainly from balsa wood, with a bit of reinforcement. The cross is taken from rig 1.

It is built round the cheap Agfa Easy Pix digital camera used for rig 1.

I will put some images of the rig here

Here are a few photos from the first test flight, in Sutton park, as usual, near the Jamboree stone. The kite was a Dopero.Wind around 12mph. Line dampers were also being tested
